Grocery Price Enquiry 2008/08/14 16:30 Karma: 2
Last week we saw the release of the ACCC grocery price inquiry and they have launched a website where you can have a look at the price comparisons in your area. www.grocerychoice.gov.au

I believe the site has some limitations and we still need to stretch our dollar as far as we can in this current economic climate. You can read my blog at

My favorite tips for managing the grocery bill are:

* Plan your meals for the week
* Shop fortnightly or monthly
* Buy only grocery items from the grocery store
* Fruit and Veg grocers are cheaper and fresher
* So is the local butcher!

I personally changed my weekly shop to a fortnightly shop and also planned the meals for 14 days. My grocery bill was $180 per week and its $180 a fortnight now. I have a deep freeze and buy as much meat as possible in bulk and I do my fruit and veg shopping at the markets on Sunday morning.

I have challenged myself this month to a monthly grocery shop, so far so good – I’ll keep you posted!

Community In Focus

Ipswich, Queensland

A great big thank you to the Ipswich City Council for having me out in April to speak with the community about money management.  Your Mayor and council are to be congratulated for their wonderful intiatives in your community.  I was delighted to be asked to present to you all, it was wonderful to meet so many of you!

Congratulations also to those who "stepped up" and attended the Back to Basics workshop as part of the Money Master Class series.

The GFC, rising interest rates and general cost of living, combined with the floods in January have put some you in difficult circumstances.  I trust that you will use the information from the seminars to help you get back on track.

Remember, it's all about getting Back to Basics!
