Managing Credit Cards 2008/05/21 05:38 Karma: 1
Do you have one? Do you use it just for emergencies? How to you control impulse spending? What about cash advances, are they a big no-no?!

It's time to check the interest rates that you're being charged on your credit cards. The highest charge I've seen on a card is 39.4%!!! Can you believe it?

Check your interest rate on your credit card, did you know these go up when the reserve bank puts up interest rates? I'm surprised at how many people are not aware of this.

My husband and I both have an agreement that we don't sign anything until we've slept on it. Make it your own personal policy to do the same. It's a great comment to use when a "high pressure" salesperson is at you... just say, "I'll call you first thing in the morning. It's my personal policy to go home and "sleep" on it." ALL DEALS can wait until the morning!!!

I seriously suck at the credit card thing, I have all good intentions and then in an impulsive moment all my good intentions and hard work fly out the window. I have found that I am an emotional shopper and my spending habits have reflected this in the past.

I have decided to leave the cards at home whilst at the shops and only have cash in my PBO to try and get somewhere.

I really am hoping to gain some ground in this area and to break old habits! Fingers crossed!

Stayed tuned for the life and times of Lynne versus her credit cards

Community In Focus

Ipswich, Queensland

A great big thank you to the Ipswich City Council for having me out in April to speak with the community about money management.  Your Mayor and council are to be congratulated for their wonderful intiatives in your community.  I was delighted to be asked to present to you all, it was wonderful to meet so many of you!

Congratulations also to those who "stepped up" and attended the Back to Basics workshop as part of the Money Master Class series.

The GFC, rising interest rates and general cost of living, combined with the floods in January have put some you in difficult circumstances.  I trust that you will use the information from the seminars to help you get back on track.

Remember, it's all about getting Back to Basics!
